Just in the northeastern city limits of Fort Worth (yep, the city line!) is a natural escape that will let your kids venture into the Texas wilderness. Within the 3,600 acres of Fort Worth forests, prairie lands and wetlands, visitors will find nine miles of paved roads and trailhead access allowing hiking enthusiasts room to roam the park’s trail system, which winds through undisturbed plant and animal habitats. If your kids aren’t quite ready to tackle the trails (most of which are not jogger-stroller friendly), there’s still plenty for them to do at the Nature Center. At the Hardwicke Interpretive Center, staffers conduct live reptile and mammal programs, in addition to educational seminars on conservation and more. In future years, the center aims to also boast a live owl program for young learners.

This venue can accommodate children with special needs.

Some areas wheelchair accessible; wheelchair-accessible sidewalk and trail around visitor center.
