The Arlington Public Library announces Discover Your Story, the grand opening of the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, a 80,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art building.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 10:30am, followed by dessert in the plaza. Then the library will open its doors to the public for the first time and offer special events: the imagination playground, technology demonstrations, tween writing workshop with Kimberly Willis Holt, and other activities.

As you enter the light-filled lobby you can strike a pose at the selfie station, or head over to the grand opening photobooth for a keepsake photo.

You can find a full list of the day’s activities on MORelibrary.org, or click here for an at-a-glance view of the schedule.

Interested in a tour? In addition to a limited number of staff run tours, you can also tour the building at your leisure, and learn more about the various sustainable aspects of the library by using the new self-guided tour smartphone app! Inside the app you can find building maps, information, and even receive text notifications about upcoming events that you are interested in.
